Paul Thomas

Paul Thomas has more than 10 years of experience in mass spectrometry, beginning in 2001 with a summer internship at the Food Composition Laboratory (USDA-ARS) in Beltsville, MD to analyze folates in food products. He completed a B.S./M.S. in Chemistry from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA where he quantitated pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) through the wastewater treatment process at several sites in Northern Virginia.  In 2004, he joined Neil Kelleher’s laboratory at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where his work spanned many subgroups and his projects included the construction of the first 12 Tesla LTQ-FT Ultra mass spectrometer, small molecule natural products research, Top Down Proteomics and various bioinformatics projects among others. After receiving his PhD, he served as the Director of the Center for Top Down Proteomics at UIUC where he managed the software launch of ProSightPC™ 2.0.  In 2010, he moved to Northwestern University and has been establishing the Proteomics Center of Excellence.  Paul currently manages the core facility and large projects within the Proteomics Center of Excellence.
